All About Slither and Crawl Pets

The Back Story

Hello everyone. Thank you very much for coming to Slither and Crawl Pets. My name is Ken, and I am the founder of this website. My interest and love for lizards and snakes overall started when I was about 8 years old and caught a Blue Belly lizard and got the chance to have a really close look at it. All the colors from the light gray and browns and caramel gold to the brilliant blue all over its belly. Its rough and bumpy skin that, I thought anyway, was so cool! Right then, I realized the lizard I just caught, caught me. As I grew older my interest in snakes and lizards grew to include a few other critters. Some that are thought of as wierd or unusual to be honest. That never stopped me from grabbing a passing insect or any other moving critter that I could catch.

“Don’t Get Bit!”

I can’t tell you how many times my parents yelled that out to me as I went out the front door to go play in the fields and empty buildings around the areas of town where I grew up. Don’t get me wrong, I know they were just looking out for a very young and daring kid. I know that NOW. I didn’t know that THEN. Fortunately I was never bitten by anything that could do me any real harm. The occational lizard or small Gopher snake that was trying to get away from me bit me on the hand from time to time, but nothing venomous thankfullly. I suppose I scared quite a few while chasing them through the brush and weeds.

How Do I Get the Information I Am Sharing With You?

When I am going to discuss an animal on this site, I go on a researching frenzy. I go to several different message boards, breeders forums, national museums, university and college, and agricultual and environmental websites. If I can’t get a proper answer, I have and will again reach out and make contact with a specialist in the field I am having trouble with and ask them for their advice/recommendation on the matter. On top of all that, I also provide my personal experience with any of the animals I own now or have ever owned. No, I am not an expert on all of the animals spotlighted on this website. I do my best to provide you with quality and correct information that I want you and everyone else out there to have.

Please don’t take the included information on this website as an all-inclusive guide to the animals you are interesed in owning. This information is meant as a very good, albeit brief, look at what some of the requirements and commitments you as a new exotic pet owner are going to face. There is plenty more research you should do before purchasing your new exotic pet. One of the first things you should do before ordering that new animal online is to make sure it is even legal for you to own it in the area you live. Laws often change around owning exotic animals. Do your homework. The judge will tell you that “ignoarnce of the law is no excuse”. I promise, that is the last thing you want to hear just before the judge hands down their verdict and punishment.

If I ever get anything wrong, please let me know. Leave me a message here or email me at Ken.SlitherandCrawlPets@gmail.com. Please provide me with the information you want me to look into and where you got your information from, and I’ll get right on looking into it. I don’t want to go spreading rumors or misleading or even wrong information because ultimatly the animal’s life depends on it.

The Goals of Slither and Crawl Pets

The goals for this website are to educate people about snakes, lizards, and other awesome animals as pets: their health and maintenance requirements, their proper habitat, handling them correctly so you “don’t get bit”, along with advice from experts in the field, stories about the latest reptile news, and notable goings-on, so to speak.

Ultimately I am working on building up Slither and Crawl Pets and will be updating it often, so you can come here with your reptile questions and get answers.

If you ever need help or have questions about reptiles, feel free to leave them below, and I will be more than happy to help you out.

All the best,

Ken
